The Little Prince is well-beloved by so many and remains an enchantingly philosophical classic in children’s literature. When designing for such a famous and iconic piece, when remaking a book jacket with my own flair, I still wanted to honor and showcase the symbols and magic that mean so much to readers. I wanted to remain true to the core symbols within the story such as the brick, rose, planets, and the fox. And while the subject wasn’t of my own creation, the challenge and room to explore was going to be in the layout, illustrative style, and color palette.
Ideation
Because the main creative challenge here was about composition, design, and style, the sketching phase was the most crucial and generative.
